A comprehesive drug testing policy is an important component of employee screening. Our drug testing and related services can save you thousands of dollars each year. Approximately 65% of accidents on the job are associated with substance abuse and employees abusing drugs file significantly more worker's compensation claims than non-abusers. It is commonly known that drug-using employees' health benefit utilization is 84% greater in dollar terms and they record 16 times more work absences than non-abusers (U.S. Dept. of Labor).
Our drug testing includes both Department of Transportation (DOT) and non-DOT type drug abuse testing. Our affiliate, Exeter Hospital Emergency Department, makes after hours testing available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
A DOT drug screen tests a specimen for five drugs (Opiates, PCP, Amphetamines, Marijuana and Cocaine). Our Collectors are trained and certified in Drug and Alcohol testing.
If necessary, once the laboratory completes the testing process, the result is forwarded to the Medical Review Officer (MRO) for review. After completion of the MRO's review the results are reported to you.
A non-DOT screen can test for more drugs than DOT testing, including Barbituates, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Methaqualone, Propxyphene and others. This is useful in a number of situations:
- Pre-employment Testing - Random Selection & Testing, Reasonable Cause, Post-Accident
- Return to Duty Testing & Monitoring Programs
- Breath Alcohol Testing
- A urine alcohol test can be added if desired
COEH offers one hour non-DOT Drug testing turnaround. For DOT testing, turnaround is typically 24 hours for negative results and 48 hours for positive results (require MRO review). Employers are contacted with results verbally. Strict measures are always taken to ensure confidentiality of all information.
Did you know that several states offer Worker's Compensation discounts to companies that maintain certified drug-free workplace programs? If you do not have a drug testing policy, COEH can help you draft your policy and implement a program designed to meet your needs.
