The Center for Occupational and Employee Health: Medical Review Officer (MRO)

An MRO is a licensed MD or DO with experience in substance abuse diagnostic work. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and state regulations, all DOT drug screens must be reviewed by an MRO. These individuals and procedures are covered in the Department of Transportation regulations 49 CFR Part 40. During the MRO's review it may be necessary to contact and speak directly with the employee to verify medical information such as medication(s) taken. The client will be notified only when a final test result is available.

COEH also provides Medical Review Officer services to non-DOT regulated companies that are required to have all employee drug screens reviewed by a physician.

All drug testing results are provided by a drug testing laboratory that is certified by HHS under the Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP).
