Radiation Oncology Nurses

Nurses play a key role in educating patients about radiation treatment. They work with the radiation team to care for patients during the course of treatment and they help evaluate the patient before treatment begins.  Radiation oncology nurses may also talk with patients about potential side effects and their management during radiation treatment. During the course of treatments, patients may be evaluated on a weekly basis, or more frequently, to assess problems and concerns.

Advanced practice nurses in oncology, including clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners, have completed a master’s degree program.
