Reception to Recognize the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Exeter Hospital Training School for Nurses

Exeter Hospital recently hosted a reception and exhibition to recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Exeter Hospital Training School for nurses.

The Exeter Hospital Training School was founded in 1906 and continued until 1935. Over the course of its existence, the Training School sent 90 highly skilled young women into nursing in the United States and Canada. Its three-year program provided high standards, exacting supervision, rigorous classroom instruction, and many hours of hands-on learning on its wards and affiliations. Life in its Tuck Home for Nurses created esprit de corps among its students and gave impetus to many life-long friendships.

At the reception, Exeter Hospital dedicated a section of its permanent history wall to the Training School. It includes items generously donated by alumna and their families, including a cape and cap worn by Avis Foss Sinclair, class of 1935. Other items and memorabilia were on display during the reception.

Exeter Hospital was pleased and honored to welcome Pauline Fifield Kenick (above), class of 1933, who was in attendance with her family.
