Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinic

The Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinic at Exeter Healthcare is a multi-disciplinary resource for patients with neuromotor and/or complex musculoskeletal conditions.

The goals of the clinic are to assist patients and patient care providers in identifying areas that need intervention, set reasonable goals and maximize patient function.

Patients who may benefit from this clinic include those with impairments resulting from:

  • Stroke
  • Head Injury
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Adult Cerebral Palsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Amputation
  • Multi-trauma
  • Diabetic complications, including neuropathy and Charcot foot

A Clinic Visit May Include:

  • Evaluation of physical and functional status
  • Review of orthotic/prosthetic choices
  • Design custom prosthetic or orthotic devices
  • Recommendations for modification of current devices
  • Gait analysis
  • Evaluation for customized footwear
  • Follow-up visits as needed
  • Physician referral to address other health related issues as needed
  • Review of insurance benefits

Team Members:

The team consists of a physiatrist (physician specializing in rehabilitation medicine), a certified orthotist (a specialist who makes braces) and/or a prosthetist (a specialist who makes artificial limbs), and a physical therapist.
